Abstract

The study aimed at assessing the level of labor rights awareness among employees and how it impacts on their job performance at St. John’s University of Tanzania and Institute of Rural Development Planning are taken as case study. The study involved 82 respondents, of which some were requested to fill in the questionnaires and others were interviewed. The sampling techniques used were random and purposive sampling and the data collected was analyzed using both qualitative and quantitative methods. The findings from the study revealed that, most employees were aware of the labor rights at their workplaces but lacked detailed knowledge on them. On the other hand, it was revealed by the study that, the awareness of labor rights help employees to push for better working conditions, be motivated as well as having job satisfaction which leads to high job performance. The study recommends that seminars and trainings should be held to provide education to employees on their rights so as to increase their awareness. Trade unions should play their roles in enhancing employees’ welfare.
